An obelisk atop the original German bunker fortification on Utah beach honors those of the 1st Engineer Special Brigage who gave their lives in the initial landings at Utah Beach and liberated Sainte Marie du Mont. On the front side is also the Seadragon emblem in red. On the other 3 sides of the obelisk are listed the specific sub-units of Assault Force U of the Western Naval Task Force who were part of the landings on the Normandy Beaches on the morning of June 6, 1944. The obelisk sits on a raised platform; on the side facing the water is a small naval gun and then a low wall on which are individual plaques that indicate the approximate location of ships and units offshore. The raised ground overlooks Utah Beach.
