On December 21, 1865 Captain Fetterman and 80 U.S. soldiers were killed when they were lured into a careful trap laid by Native American Sioux warrior Crazy Horse. This was the 2nd worst defeat by U.S. troops to Native American warriors after the Battle of the Little Big Horn. A stone marker and engraved plaque look out over the battlefield and a small walk path leads around the battle ground.
