This granite obelisk was raised on the 50th anniversary of the June 6, 1944 landings to honor all those who landed on Omaha Beach that day and especially those who gave their. A beautiful engraved inscription honoring those who were lost is on the front in both English and French; on the sides are listed specific battalions, units and platoons which comprised the division on that day. On the back of the obelisk are inscribed the campaigns in which the 29th participated as well as the number of casualties the unit sustained. Money was raised by the 29th Division Association, Vierville-sur-Mer, and the states of Maryland and Virginia.
