Within the entrance hall to the Yale University Commons the walls are inscribed with the names of Yale graduates who lost their lives in American conflicts from the War of 1812 through Vietnam. The information includes their year of graduation as well as the action in which they lost their life. Most of the plaques and walls of names are dedicated by specific graduating classes from the university. Several walls contain the names of those from Yale who served and died during the Civil War. There is also an inscription on the floor noting this memorial, however the etching is almost worn off and the floor is covered most of the time by a floor mat.
