This slightly larger than life bronze statue on a granite base depicts a young Union soldier holding his cap in his left hand. The memorial as the plaque on it indicates honors the men of Connecticut who “Suffered in Southern military prisons 1861-1865.” The statue was sculpted by Bela Lyon Pratt and a copy of this statue also resides in Andersonville, Georgia at the site of the POW Museum and Memorial.
