At the base of the stairway up Monument Terrace in Lynchburg VA is the city’s WWI memorial that features a side view of a bronze WWI doughboy soldier who has his left arm resting on the side of a trench wall and holds his rifle in his right hand. On the stone panels around him are inscribed the names of the men from the city who lost their lives and the names of the units who participated in the conflict.
