This tall obelisk stands in honor of James W. Fannin, Jr. and his men who surrendered here after a brave defense of Golida/La Bahia during the Texas Revolution. They believed they would be treated honorably by the Mexican Army, but instead they were executed. The granite obelisk stands in the center of a circular park that has been preserved to honor Texas history.
