This tall monument on the east lawn of the Texas Capitol Grounds honors General Hood’s Texas Brigade that served in the Civil War. From the marble base rises a column topped by a statue of a member of the brigade. Around the base are inscribed quotes commending the brigade by General Robert E. Lee, General Hood’s assessment of his men, and a list of the major battles in which the brigade participated.
