On the front walkway to the state capitol sits the Texas War for Independence Memorial. Four columns support a rotunda topped by a bronze statue of a Texas independence fighter. Around the four sides of the rotunda are sculptures and plaques representing the fight for Texas independence. On one side is inscribed “The Heroes of the Alamo” and on the insides of the four columns are engraved the names of the men who lost their lives fighting at the Alamo.
