This stone monument lists those 7th Cavalry men who died fighting the Sioux Indians especially at Wounded Knee in 1890. The "battle" is controversial as Native Americans view it as a massacre. The soldiers of 7th Cavalry honored their fallen comrades. The 7th Cavlary had earlier suffered a major loss at the Battle of the Little Big Horn (formerly known as Custer's Last Stand). The memorial is located at the corner of Sheridan Avenue & Huebner Road at Fort Riley, Kansas.
