var str = 'In Riverside Park on the Upper West Side of Manhattan stands the regal Civil War Soldiers and Sailors Monument which was built by the City of New York to honor those who fought for the Union in the war. The large 100-foot-tall circular Greek-style temple with 12 columns at the center sits on a raised platform and large plinths at the top of the south stairs list the New York Volunteer Units that served in the war as well as Union generals and the battles in which they fought. The top of the structure is surrounded by carved eagles. The monument was designed by Charles and Arthur Stoughton who won a competition in 1897; Paul Duboy served as the sculptor. The monument was dedicated on Memorial Day in 1902 at the culmination of parade of veterans.';

var str = 'This national cemetery was created right after the Civil War to hold the graves of Union soldiers most those who had died at very early Battle of Wilsons Creek which had been a Confederate victory. Missouri did not seceded but the citizens were divided and many fought on both sides in the war. In 1871 a Confederate cemetery was established adjacent and was composed of six acres of which 2.7 acres lay inside a stone wall. In 1911 in a unique decision the US Congress agreed to annex the Confederate cemetery site into the National Cemetery with the provision that only Confederates could be buried in the walled section. In 1901 the United Confederate Veterans placed a very large memorial with a statue of a Confederate soldier in the Confederate section. Finally in the 1980s an agreement allowed for non-Confederate burials in the remaining 200 plus plots in the Confederate section. This is the only National Cemetery with a Confederate burial section. There are other memorials within the cemetery.';
